Autumn Term 1: Journeys and Adventures

Welcome to Year 2!

Moving from Year 1 to Year 2 can seem like a daunting prospect for parents and children alike, even though children are simply moving into a new year group and not a new school it can still cause stress and worry.  This is especially true as the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdowns impacted children in many ways.

If children are suffering from anxiety about coming to school, they will not be in the correct emotional state to retain learning.  Our priority therefore is on settling the children back into school life and on building relationships, trust and confidence. Building the children's resilience is key.

We will of course be doing this in our usual 'World's End way' through exciting topics and fun activities.  This term our topic is called 'Journeys and Adventures'.  We will be exploring and finding out about different ways of travel with a particular focus on wheeled vehicles.  This is important as we at the end of the term we will be making our very own! Lots of our learning is linked to our Core texts of 'Journey' by Aaron Becker and 'the Umbrella' by Ingrid and Dieter Schuber both fantastic wordless picture books which explore magical and breathtaking journeys.
