Children’s Rights
In 1989 the world made a set of promises to children when it adopted ‘The Convention on the Rights of the Child’. The CRC is a major milestone in the effort to achieve a world fit for children. It has inspired changes in laws to better protect children, changed the way international organisations work and helped to protect children during conflicts.
At World’s End Infants School we make a promise to help every child to realise their rights. We are continuing with our commitment to and support for children’s rights and our hard word and effort was acknowledged with the achievement of the Silver award. This means:
Our school is explicitly embedding the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in its policy, practice and culture
We are promoting knowledge and understanding of the Convention throughout your school community
We are putting into action and developing the plans outlined on your Action Plan for Silver, which you submitted to achieve your Bronze: Rights Committed
We are beginning to see the positive impact of these actions on children and young people, staff, and on the school’s ethos, practice and environment
Children and young people are beginning to see themselves as rights respecting global citizens and advocates for fairness and children’s rights, both locally and globally
The rights that the children will be learning about in school are:
The right to education
The right to be safe
The right to good health
The right to relax and play
The right to be cared for and respected no matter who you are or where you come from
The right to be heard
Children are taught about rights in PSHE (Personal Social Health Education). They learn about children’s rights in assemblies, through fundraising activities and they learn to respect other people’s rights when staff model and encourage rights respecting behaviour throughout the day.
