Supporting your child with reading at home
Although each child will be reading lots at school, supporting them at home too will have a huge impact on their reading fluency and love of books too!
There are two types of reading book that children will bring home to share with you:
- Reading practice book (Big Cat Phonics). This is a fully decodable book that is at the correct phonic stage for your child and they should be able to read this fluently and independently. This is also the text that has been previously read as part of the reading practice sessions.
- Reading for Pleasure book. We aim to inspire the children at World’s End Infant and Nursery school to develop a love of reading and become lifelong learners. Each week the children select a reading for pleasure book from the school library or book corner that they take home to share with their family. Please remember that you should not expect your child to read this book alone. Have fun reading it together, discuss the pictures and predict what might happen next!
